Me and my mother don't have great credit but my grandfather who will be mostly paying the rent makes more than enough money and always pays rent on time. Ive heard of cosingers but I don't know how that works or if we should do that. I need answers asap since we have to move in about a month

Why don't you just have him rent the place in just his name and list the two of you as tenants (and then you 2 just pay him money on the side to help with the costs). Lots of places will allow that but if the place wants all adults to sign the lease, then they probably will still be ok with your situation since he can cover the entire cost himself. If they won't allow this situation then just go somewhere else.
Almost nobody with bad credit can rent. Except maybe from an extended stay hotel or very few private landlords who will accept multiple months rent in advance.
With bad credit you can't cosign - that means you'd pay the rent if grandpa didn't. It's up to the lanlord whether they'll allow you to be a tenant.
Ask your grandpa .
As adults, you will be required to sign the lease, and thus will need to be credit checked, etc.
