I've never seen Shakespear's portrayal of love as pure. He's incorporated jealousy, deceit, death...love is almost more complex in the way he writes it because he puts it into real form. Romeo and Juliet had struggles. They had to lie to their parents, sneak around, live separate lives while harboring this idea that they were perfect for each other and the end result is death and tragedy because they could not be together. They were young, naive and clueless and while he wrote the story so romantically, in today's world, they would be called idiots for being so silly.

I think Shakespeare had more extreme "infatuation", rather than Love, in its pure form, in his novels.

As far as pure Love, yes i think it absolutely exists, otherwise how would we know what to expect from it? The fact that many of us have yet to experience it, or give it to someone, doesn't invalidate it.

You mentioned basic human needs...what i believe is our basic need is, Love, in its pure form. All these other factors, money, sexual desire, power, greed etc. are things that we as individuals allow into our emotions and actions, that absolutely play a role in how we express love to anyone/everyone. I believe, the more we allow ourselves to be influenced by our weak nature, rather than ignoring everything negative, the further we are from true and pure love.

I think that it has the potential to be true love. All of Shakespeare's plays were based on real life. The Romeo and Juliet story has been told over and over in different cultures all over the world. It must exist for so many people to have that ideal. I think in today's world we are motivated by other things- lonliness, peer pressure money etc. to be in a relationship. However, sometimes that glimmer of true love can be seen through all of that negativity.

False. It can exist, but not often. I know a couple that have been married for 40 years and still love each other, never cheated on each other and support each other. They allow each other room to grow personally and yet confide in each other, all the fears and joys of sharing a life and family together. They still hold hands, and she will still sits on his lap. It is becoming harder and harder to find with the moral standards becoming more and more corrupt. But yes it can exist, and lucky are the few that find it.

The type of love portrayed is Eros- which is NOT love in it's pure form.

The pure form of love is Agape, which is completely unconditional regardless of the human needs.
