I have a NexStar 6SE myself and like it very much. It packs a lot of telescope into a small portable package. However, the same money in a Dobsonian will get you a far larger aperture, though with a loss of portability. I wouldn't be satisfied with a 6SE as my primary scope (I have an 11-inch for that), but for a grab-and-go scope it is excellent. Be aware that the alignment procedure is a bit finicky, and the built in batteries are useless. You really need an external power supply. I use an emergency car battery myself.
"Go To" scopes are not a great idea. For the same money you could get a larger, better telescope that would show you more. Most people who have them are frustrated with trying to get them aligned. It's preferable that you learn to read star charts and find your way around the sky yourself. You will learn a lot more.
