It may be challenging at first but the longer you stick with it, the easier it gets, trust me. I'm the only veg*n in a family that eats meat on a daily basis.Even though I'm much older now, I first became a vegetarian in high school so I know what it's like to be faced with meat, poultry and fish at the dinner table.
If this is something you truly believe in, then you'll stick to it and move ahead. Sometimes the things that mean the most to us are the hardest things to follow through with. It just makes them that much more meaningful :)
There are so many substitutes for meat now that you could still enjoy things like bbq's and just about any meal you can think of,quorn is really popular and you can buy all kinds of burgers and sausages made from it,they do various chicken style products too.
You can buy things like quorn roast if you don't really like the idea of a nut roast, its worth having a look at what meat alternatives are available so you can see how you could make the changes.
Start with the truth.
First of all, accept that Nature is brutal place to live and every living thing on this planet devours whatever it can find.
Even trees feast on the remains of dead bugs.
Violence a part of nature. Violent consumption is natural.
God help us, we're a part of nature.
(go ahead and growl a little right here to celebrate our species)
Think out the morality.
If you don't eat the animal, something else will.
Either another predator or bacteria.
Something will eat it.
You're not going to save a creature by not eating.
So why tie your emotions to it?
Dump the guilt and don't worry about it.
Do it for you.
I'm omnivorous. I like what nature made me but I do switch diets to all vegetable. It's nice and I support anybody who wants to do it.
True vegetarians (not vegans) are some of the happiest people in the world.
I've been on veg diets a couple of times for health's sake and it's fine.
But DO IT FOR YOU and not some nasty chicken
(they really are gross)
Protein protein protein.
Your body will crave it to murderous ends.
Lentils are great. Nearly complete in proteins.
Mix 'em into everything.
For some reason, hand making bread helps me a lot.
I've had some bread meals that left me wanting nothing.
Fruit feasts are another trip into a meatless form of heaven.
Celery and peanut butter are good meals.
There's just a ton more to eat that didn't have eyes.
Playing around with herbs and spices also makes it enjoyable and easier to transfer your cravings.
But keep your protein intake up always.
Much of it is mental.
Load up on Lentils before the family "roast it" so you're not as hungry.
Make fresh bread while everybody is grilling away.
I promise you will be the star of the show.
A grill full of hamburgers will draw some happy noses
but a kitchen full of baking bread draws an impatient crowd..
Most of all, do it for YOU and not a cause.
Causes are fleeting and restrictive.
People committed to them are annoying and judgmental.
The "vegetarians" I know will happily take a piece of meat but they don't crave the stuff.
Something about the diet just makes them happy.
I think that's the thing that inspires them to prefer it.
And, did I say "do if for you" enough? :)
Heeey, I have been a veggie for 9 months so I hope I can help you out a bit. All my family eat meat aswell so at first I thought I could never do it but if you got motavation then you can.
Just give up meat bit by bit so its not like a huge downpour onto your diet, maybe ask your family not to always have meat try get them to try veggie things.
At BBQ's there is lots off things that veggies can eat, for example veggie burgers sausages :)
They will adjust to you being vegetarian. How about bbqing some zuchini on the bbq you can both have it as a side dish. Maybe you could make some recipes that are your main course, but they can also have as their side dishes.

It is not hard, it is just a matter of your choice. You are not forced to become a vegetarian. Just ask yourself why you want to be Veg, and answer is convincing then what is the problem?????
I found it really easy, i slowly stopped eating alll the meat, i just went off of it. Qourn is a mazing alternative to meat. Btw, all my family and friends eat meat, just ignore them.
