Jesus meant that all who belong to Him should remember what He did in laying down his life to atone for our sins whenever they came together to eat the bread and drink the wine, which represents his body and shed blood.
This is part of the new covenant Jesus introduced the night before he died. Every believer who has experienced the new birth and who has entered into this new covenant is obliged to partake of the bread and the wine until Jesus returns.
It is fitting that the 8 million Jehovah's Witnesses who will come together on 23 March this year at their annual memorial of the death of Jesus will NOT take the bread and the wine. They do not qualify. They have not been born again, they are not in the new covenant and Christ Jesus is not their mediator.
That should worry them, but apparently it does not because they have been told it isn't necessary for them to be born again, contrary to what Jesus said in the Bible. How they then expect to be part of the kingdom of God is a mystery. It is noteworthy that only some 14,000 Jehovah's Witnesses alive today will take the bread and the wine. The rest will silently pass the plate and the cup round, without partaking. That's because they think the promises in the New Testament apply only to 144,000 persons since the time of Jesus. Yet Jesus did not say that only a limited number could enter the new covenant - ALL believers are invited to partake (John 1:12-13).
Keep doing, means to keep this observance ordered by Jesus. It is the only time Jesus COMMANDED a date to be observed, by having it replace Passover, Nissan 14th on the lunar calender.
"Remembrance" means knowing the emblems represent Christ's blood, spilled to forgive sins. The yeast free bread, means his body, offered up as a replacement for Adam and redeem the human race as essentially, our step-father.
Further, the only ones who will partake of the emblems are those who are dying as Jesus did to be raised as a spirit creature. Only 11 people partook at the first one, out of thousands in Jerusalem then.
There are many, many times the number of observers who do not partake. They are there in support and agreement. They get benefits when all those caretakers have assembled in heaven with Jesus in ruling God's Kingdom as Rev. 5:10 describes.
Jesus’ words indicated that he was now introducing a new covenant, which would replace the Law covenant that Jehovah had established with Israel through Moses.
the apostles could understand that when Jesus said that his body and blood were ‘to be given and to be poured out in their behalf,’ he meant that he was to give his own perfect life as a sacrifice. It would be a sacrifice of far greater worth than that of animals.
These words have also been rendered: “Do this in memory of me” (Today’s English Version) and “Do this as a memorial of me.” (The Jerusalem Bible) In fact, this observance is often referred to as the Memorial of Christ’s death. Paul also calls it the Lord’s Evening Meal—an appropriate designation, since this was instituted at night. (1 Corinthians 11:20) Christians are commanded to observe the Lord’s Evening Meal every year.
Jesus instructed His disciples to eat unleavened bread and drink from a cup of wine in remembrance of how His body was broken in death, and His blood spilled, in order to bring them into the New Covenant (verse 20).
All believers in Jesus, who have trusted in His name and received Him by faith (John 1:12-13) have the right to partake, for they are the ones brought into that New Covenant by the New Birth as verse 13 explains.
The Bible says Christians keep doing this until He comes - re-enacting that First Supper of the New Covenant is a public testimony to the world of our faith that Jesus will yet return:
"The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said,
'This is my body, which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of me.'
In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying,
'This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.'
For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes." (1 Cor 11:23-26)
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
John the Baptist told you that the word became flesh, but you did not
believe him,,,
Jesus told you that you would eat his flesh (the Words), but you would not believe Jesus.
You were told that the 12 apostles ate the passover of "unleavened bread" with Jesus at which time Jesus told the 12 that he would be killed for the "REMISSION" of sin.

WHY DO YOU NOT BELIEVE JESUS?
Luke 22:19 (KJV)
We are to eat the bread and drink the wine (communion) every week in remembrance of Jesus sacrifice for us. His death and resurrection.
To eat bread and drink wine so we could remember Jesus
Was the bible passage not clear enough? Read the sentance before and after that. And it is pretty clear
Wine always represented blood....
'tread the winepress' is found in scripture....and this brings us to remember
what Jesus did when we have the Lord's supper.
The bread, .....Jesus is the 'bread' from heaven....so He supplies the
sustenance for the new life in Christ.
keep doing the lord's supper. drink wine or red liquid to represent jesus blood. eat bread to represent his body that was sacrificed for our salvation
Every Sunday, remember through this memorial what it took to have your sins taken away.
