Jehovah’s Witnesses: Tomorrow we’re having turkey dinner and watching a blue-ray movie. Is it a sin?
Keep in mind, we’re doing this with genuinely pure motives. We have no intentions of being pagan or nationalistic. We’re committed to avoiding gluttony & including a family walk for exercise. And we occasionally eat turkey on other times of the year too.
The focus will be on valuing our family and being thankful to God for his bountiful blessings (although we are indeed thankful each and every day of the year).
Given all these facts, will Jehovah approve of our activities?

True worshippers of Jehovah must not celebrate a man's holy day. However, we give thanks to Jehovah every day. Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate the one event that Jesus commanded his followers. The memorial of his death (1Cor.11:23- 26). We also celebrate other events which are referred to favorably in the Scriptures such as marriage anniversaries, baby showers, and graduations. Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday set up by the government and so it is a corruption of True Christianity. Moreover, it has definite pagan origins, which are utterly detestable to Jehovah.
Hence, the answer to your question is that Jehovah will NOT approve of your activities and your supposedly pure motives are irrelevant to him. The Israelites, when worshipping the Golden Calf, made the same excuse.
Conclusion: If you celebrate Thanksgiving, you are NOT a true Christian. And you can be certain that absolutely no Jehovah's Witnesses will be joining you in such paganism Thursday night.
In regards to Thanksgiving, one of the Jehovah’s Witnesses recently wrote that: "only we have true Christian freedom because we're not obligated to buckle under the pressure of worshipping a secular government."
This Jehovah’s Witness apparently believes that people worship the United States of America when they slide dark meat turkey and scoop stuffing and mashed potatoes onto their plate on Thanksgiving Day.
Do Jehovah’s Witnesses really understand the words "obligated" and "freedom?”
And I might add this: In concluding that I “worship” the USA by eating turkey on Thanksgiving, have they revealed a fundamental misunderstanding of that word?
You may feel they are pure motives and all that jazz, but Jehovah was there when all of these pagan customs were started. How do you think he views them? Isn't that what should be of the utmost importance?

It amazes me when people speak of "Thankgiving" as a day to be thankful. I have three questions for you. Are you only thankful one time out of the year? Why do you allow others to dictate to you when you should show your thankfulness? What are you thankful for, practicing in something you know God disapproves of?
How can this in any way be pleasing to him when you are supporting the beliefs and customs of pagans who worshiped many deities?
John 15:19 say we are no part of the world.
Romans 14:12 says each will render an account to Jehovah.
You want us to judge you? You can forget that. That is up to Jehovah.
it's fine. You can do whatever you want as long as it's not a crime or fellony. It's OK to have a birthday...since it is your birth-day. Chill out. You're not going to burn in hell if you celebrate a holiday just for the fun of it.
Sounds like a blast. Motivation is the key factor to anything. You know God would be pleased by your thanks, your value of your family, and your thoughtfulness in making the things you do pleasing to God.
