I'm talking about this verse:
"On this account, indeed, the Jews began seeking all the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the Sabbath but he was also calling God his own Father, making himself equal to God."

Yes
John 5:18 NKJV
Therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill Him, because He not only broke the Sabbath, but also said that God was His Father, making Himself equal with God.
The Father even Called the Son God in Hebrews 1:8
Hebrews 1:8 NKJ
But to the Son He says: "Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your Kingdom.
Jesus Forgives sins and Only God alone can forgive sins
Luke 5:18-21 NKJ
Then behold, men brought on a bed a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. 19 And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop and let him down with his bed through the tiling into the midst before Jesus. 20 When He saw their faith, He said to him, "Man, your sins are forgiven you." 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
Thomas Called Jesus My Lord and My God and Jesus NEVER rebuked him for saying so.
John 20:27-29 NKJV
Then He said to Thomas, "Reach your finger here, and look at My hands; and reach your hand here, and put it into My side. Do not be unbelieving, but believing." 28 And Thomas answered and said to Him, "My Lord and my God!" 29 Jesus said to him, "Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
The Lord our God The Lord is One
Mark 12:29 NKJ
Jesus answered him, "The first of all the commandments is: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.
Jesus is Lord
Luke 2:11 NKJ
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
Jesus The Word was God
John 1:1 NKJ
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Firstborn can mean firstborn into a family and it can also mean a title of high rank.
David who was the last one born in his family in ( 1 Chronicles 2:13-15 )
was called firstborn by God in ( Psalm 89:20,27)
Firstborn in Colossians 1:15 and Hebrews 1:6 is a title of high rank.
It does NOT say firstcreation in either of these two verses.
The Holy Spirit is God and is referred to as HE and HE speaks
see Acts 5:3-4 & John 16:13
The Holy Spirit can be lied to and he speaks.
You can lie to a person but you cannot lie to some mere force.
A force is just an action that cannot be lied to. A force cannot speak.
The Holy Spirit is God
Acts 5:3-4 NKJ
But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? 4 While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God."
John 16:13 NKJ
However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
The Word Trinity means 3 In ONE
The Word Trinity expresses the Triune nature of God
The Bible teaches that God is a trinity
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit is the One God
Did you know that we ourselves are a Trinity. We have a Body, Spirit and Soul but we are ONE. The Body is Distinct from The Spirit and The Body is Distinct from the Soul and The Spirit is Distinct from the Body and the Spirit is Distinct from the Soul and the Soul is Distinct from the Body and the Soul is Distinct from the Spirit, so as you can see we ourselves are a Trinity. we ourselves are 3 in ONE Interesting :)
The Trinity is ONE God and God is the Father, Son and Holy Spirit and The Father is Distinct from the Son and the Father is Distinct from the Holy Spirit and the Son is Distinct from the Father and the Son is Distinct from Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit is Distinct from the Father and the Holy Spirit is Distinct from the Son But all are the ONE GOD
Jesus is God
In Revelation this ties Jehovah and Jesus being the same:
Go to Rev 1:8-Who said I'm the first and the last? Jehovah did.
Now read Rev 22:12-16. In 16-I'm Jesus it states.
The Jews had the thinking that by saying God was his Father, he was making himself equal to God. We see how people attempt to do the same but scripture reveals it to be false.
Reading verse 19 he shows them he wasn't God.
"Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner."
If he was God, how could anyone reasonably think God could not do anything of his own initiative?
Edit: If Jesus is God, what does 1 Corinthians 11:3 mean (NIV)?
"Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God."
How can Jesus be God but God is over him?
Edit 2: Bourke, reread Revelation 22. 14 &15 are Jehovah speaking. 16 is Jesus speaking. 2 separate beings are here.
No. Mark 14:60Â Finally the high priest rose in their midst and questioned Jesus, saying: “Do you say nothing in reply? What is it these are testifying against you?” 61Â But he kept silent and made no reply at all. Again the high priest began to question him and said to him: “Are you the Christ the Son of the Blessed One?” 62Â Then Jesus said: “I am; and YOU persons will see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of power and coming with the clouds of heaven.
Yes he is. Jesus and the Father are one. "Hear o Israel the Lord God is one". There is one God that exists in three person. Jesus is God. But the Father isn't Jesus. The Spirit is God but the Spirit isn't Jesus and so on.
Who said that Jesus was making himself equal to God?
Not Jesus.
He actually defended himself against this false trinity charge in the very next verse (19): "To this accusation Jesus replied: . . . 'the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees the Father doing."
I'm not human, Imma toaster waffle, so i dunno anything bout human religion.
