As far as benefits, the Army generally gives the best benefits because the Army always needs the most people. However those benefits are drying up as the economy is bad.
Other then that, you need to look at a couple things:
1) What type of units are around your area. This will limit what jobs you can choose from.
2) What do you want to do as a specific job. You have to match this up to what is near you. For example, you cannot just be an Army Firefighter if there is no Army Reserve Fire Fighter around you.
Another option is to look at your National Guard units. These belong to the state as opposed to the federal government. Depending what state you live in, this can be a better deal since some states offer more benefits then just the federal benefits. Again with the National Guard, you have to look and see what type of units are in your area.
With both the Reserves and the National Guard, you can get financial aid while you serve.
