Is being open and “like a open book” the same thing or not.?

people say I am an open book just asked me and I ask (not their deepest darkest secrets). For example like in another life: who would you be dead, alive, made up characters make conversation. I get short answers and no return inquiries. they say they’re not a talker and the conversations feel more one sided. So I was wondering do I have this whole concept of open book wrong. Am I just fooling myself into thinking that they’re not really an open book or are they fooling themselves.

Pretty much since openness means nothing to hide or cover up.
"Being open" can mean that you are open to new ideas and new people. You are interested in new experiences.
"Like an open book" means you tell everything about your life, you have no secrets.
like an open book is used to say that you are there to be read, easy to predict and know, nothing hidden, it is all there in black and white for anyone to see if they bother to look. What you see is what you get, basically.
Being open is a choice. You can choose to reveal or to not reveal. Openness means that you choose to reveal. You could be seen as an open book because you are such an open person, but not all people are open books because they are open people. They just suck at hiding.
Different things - open means being honest. Which is a good quality.
But an open book suggests you are incapable of hiding anything, which may mean you are indiscreet.
If you describe someone as open-minded, you approve of them because they are willing to listen to and consider other people's ideas and suggestions.

"I'm open to anything." But "being an open book" is something different altogether. It's used to describe someone whose personal life is not personal. In many cases it carries a derogatory connotation because usually such people have big mouths and like to create drama or prefer to be the center of attention or the talk of the town. The analogy comes from a book lying open where anyone passing by can read it.

Being open can mean open to only one thing and not everything.
