I have an Intel Celeron CPU - 2.20 GHz and I'm thinking about replacing it with a more powerful processer. I couldn't find my current motherboard so all I know is that I have the default motherboard of a Dell INSPIRON 530 that I got about 5 months ago.
Can somebody tell me if the Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor E8500 (6M Cache, 3.16 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) is compatible with my motherboard if I were to get it?

There were 5 different motherboards used in that system, a couple of them in the slim tower models.

First, you'll need to find out which board is in your system, you can use cpu-z to find that info, it's on the mainboard tab.

Next, you'll need to find out what processors Dell used on that board. Your only upgrade options will be the processors that Dell used on that board, they'll have bios support, and a processor without bios support either won't work properly or won't work at all. That info can be found in the Dell forums. If you have the 0RY007 board (Foxconn G33M02), here's what I found.

If you have a different board, search the forum for cpu upgrades for your board.
