In Maruthi, swift’s users manual, section before driving, it starts with “You must use unleaded petrol with an Octane number (RON) 88 or higher”
1. Normal Petrol : 87
2. BP Speed: 93
3. Speed97: 97
4. Indian Oil Extra Premium: 91
5. Reliance & Essar Petrol: No idea
So we do not have petrol with (only) 88
.
What do you suggest then,
· Use higher-octane petrol
· Use normal petrol max and fill few litters higher-octane to achieve this 88 ?
· Do not mix-and match. That will cause engine problems. (Some time back we read a Sesna crashed in Bangalore because of engine cease, and the reason was pilot filled fuel tank, with a different rating octane, that what it was having already) Pl don’t laugh, n comparing with Maruthi’s engine with Sesna’s. :-)
· Using normal petrol with 87, wont cause much issues. Because its only 1 number lesser than recommended in manual booklet.
Update:Hi Gre,
I had the same post on a different forum too. They suggested, I can continue with the 87. Pl see this -- http://www.carwale.com/forums/viewthread-3320.html...

If I was that worried about it, I'd go with the higher octane rating. Using a higher octane won't hurt an engine while useing a lower than required octane can do damage to an engine.
