It is asking how much the temperature changed. Not enough room for the rest I guess.
This is all the information that I have on the problem. I know this is a simple problem which is what gets me; why would this easy problem be amongst my many much harder college algebra problems. I came out with an 83 degree temp. rise.

33+50=83.
Average temperature change per hour:
41.5
You don't count the zero. -33+33=0. 0+50=50.
Easy. 33 plus the 50 and add one for the zero (most people forget this) and the answer is 84 degrees
Zero is a degree. Look at your thermometer, there are three degrees between -1 and +1.
"add one for the zero"? No. The zero means you don't have to do anything strange. Just subtract.
Because they gave you the time it took, they could want the rate of change in degrees/hour.
