I was walking home from the grocery store and about halfway home, in the middle of a storm, two dogs run out of from the neighborhood to the left of me and go on the side walk where I am. Suddenly, before I knew it, one of them goes onto the road and gets hit a few seconds later.
I was in shock and didn’t know what to do, as I’m just a high schooler walking home by himself in the middle of a storm. So I couldn’t do anything but continue walking.
I bawled my eyes out when I got home, and prayed for the dogs survival and peace. However, I can’t get the image and sound of it being hit and it’s cries out of mind. Is there anything I can do to make myself feel better and maybe even forget about it?

I got three of those images that come to mind quite often. It is a really haunting thing to see & it never leaves your memory. Sorry you had to see this. You could have called Animal Control. or went knocking on doors to find out who owned the dog so they could take care of it. Something other then just walking away form it.
Yeah
then go see your therapist Blueface ..... Thats what they are for
There was no need to Spam as this was already answered, Spamming is a violation of YA guidelines, as well as reportable, and won't change the answers already given.
You could have called animal control immediately and let them deal with it. As for your own feelings... I already answered that a moment ago....
It's sad. Just go home and love your dog more, go adopt too. Pray for it's soul and spirit.
I know how you feel as have seen it all the same when I was younger.
Nothing you can do about it now and you need to try and put it out of your mind.
Much Worse things happen all over the world every day.
I watched a video not so long ago which involved extreme dog cruelty and suffering and it haunted me for weeks, even months.
But one just has to deal with the nasty events that life throws at you.
I doubt you will ever forget about the incident you saw, but the memory of it WILL fade and one day you will only think about it once in a blue moon and it won`t upset you anything like it does now that its still fresh in your mind.
Get over it Bad things happen all the time. You can't be traumatized by every bad thing
Never cal 911 or any emergency number for a dog or cat being ran over. They won't do anything unless there's a car accident and a human was hurt. There was nothing you could have done any way. had you approached the dogs they may have bitten or attacked you and they would have to be destroyed and you would have to get the painful rabies series
The owner was too alzy to keep them indoors and too lazy to care about the dogs, nothing you can do
I am assuming you have a phone. You should have called animal control (or simply 911) and notified them of the hit dog & its last known location, since you did not stay, and keep it in sight. Whether dead or alive - it needed to be picked up.
If dead, and the owners looked for it - at least it could be found/claimed. If not dead, it could have received immediate medical attention or have been humanely put down, if that was required, due to extensive injuries. Had you called for HELP, you would have known - you had done all you could and you would not feel guilty.
