I’m moving to Portland, is there a place near the water where rent isn’t too bad?
Most important things to us are:
1. affordable housing (PRIVATE location away from other houses)
2. away from the city (half an hour drive?)
3. close to the water
4. safety

The area around Blue Lake (Gresham/Troutdale) is a place that meets all of your criteria. The housing there is fairly inexpensive, by Portland standards. It is away from the city. Close to water (The Columbia River, Blue Lake and Oxbow Park). And it is also a safe neighborhood!
The answerer above me recommended Lake Oswego and Tigard, but those are very expensive suburbs! And the traffic out that way is terrible.

whats the point of living in portland if you arent going to live in portland? If you want to be near portland I think your just gonna have to go to like tigard or lake oswego or even beaverton.
