I’m a black man from New York and I just got my degree. I’m looking to enter the private sector because of higher pay, but I was wondering if I should be doing activism and social justice work for the black community, rather than looking for careers in accounting and marketing at fortune 500’s.

It doesn’t have to be one or the other.
You need to know what is of value to you (other than just money) and prioritize those values – then you are able to compare that to what your job is offering, and if there is a mismatch look at options such as what job you take, extracurricular activities outside of employment, giving etc.

No. And because you started out with your race...as if it is a descriptor for the type of work you should do...I almost fear I am answering a foreign troll.
I say, get into banking, accounting and/or marketing unless you can do cyber security.
Check the BLS.gov website for the types of jobs in the USA and the pay scales AND how many of those jobs the government expects to be open BY REGION during the next 18 months to 5 years.
Then all you have to do is apply to those jobs.
no, find what works for YOU. good luck.
Make your money...then donate to those causes. With a major in public health though...any reason you cannot do both?
Do whatever you wanna do!
That is up to you. Just remember that not so long ago you probably couldn't even get in the door for an accounting or marketing position at a Fortune 500 company. Sometimes doing a good job to break stereotypes is the best way to help your community. Doesn't keep you from doing some volunteer work as well.
If you're for real, what's your major, minor, and degree?

With that PH major, Fortune 500 interviewers are gonna ask why you didn't major in accounting and/or marketing, and it sounds like a tough question for you to answer.
Public health is a very highly respected field that serves your community. It's what you've trained for. I think it would be wise to give it a shot before turning your back on your major.

So here's a thought: You work a few years in the City at public health; learn the ropes, prove yourself, etc. Then, you look for jobs at big hotel chains cruise lines, maybe some upscale restaurant chains. I don't know much about public health, but I bet all those companies want to be as clean as they can and stay out of the public health news as much as they can. Once you've proven yourself, I'll bet they will pay more than the city and have travel opportunities.
Social justice jobs aren't' real jobs. Likely you will be paid minimum wage with no opportunity for advancement or health benefits. Your voice is stronger when you work for your own cause. If you invested in good skills you should be compensated for them rather than attacking them.
