not a grand idea. the hospitals would be overwhelmed ... which means that when you have a heart attack either you'll be untreated or you'll get CV19 in hospital and, in weakened state already, likely die of it.
If the hospitals and healthcare workers are overwhelmed, it's bad for all of us. Clearly, there's some place between 0 deaths and an average of 1500 a day, which is what's happening now, and we're unlikely to agree on what that magic number is. But if it goes up, something will have to be done.
Los Angeles county has a population of 10 million people... the average daily death rate the last two weeks has been 44...
...public health officials are warning about a 60% spike in deaths if we are "too reckless" in the reopening plan... that would bring the death toll to 69... and that's rounding up.... again, in a county of just over 10 million people...
...but people hear "oh my God 60%" and all they see are mass graves and swarms of locusts...
...one county health official said the economy should not reopen until Los Angeles reports no deaths for two consecutive weeks... keep in mind that this is not a doctor or a business person, but someone with a PhD in public policy... keep in mind also that this person makes a six-figure guaranteed wage and pension...
....and yet when people questioned her wisdom, others immediately said "why are you so anti-science? why don't you respect the EXPERTS?"
what's worse "collateral damage" caused by people working and living their lives or by fear, ignorance and media-driven panic that is actually the furthest thing from "science"...?
Given how litigious a society the US, can you imagine multiple class action lawsuits seeking compensation for the survivors of the dead and the resulting payouts ?
And, if the death toll goes up in such an irresponsible reopening, are you deluded enough to believe that 90% of the population won't run back home so as to NOT DIE themselves as a direct result ?
Such an irresponsible reopening will crash the economy FAR HARDER than the current lockdowns are.
Sadly yes. We have to accept it as collateral damage because each month the economy stays closed adds approximately 2 years to the recovery time of the coming depression. We are already at a minimum 5 years of recovery. We just cant let it keep going up.
This virus actually kills fewer people than the flu. It's nothing to worry about. But if you want to worry, you can stay in your basement and hide like a sniveling coward, just as Joe Biden has been doing.

It won't, so don't worry about it, Chicken Little.
The economy being closed led to massive infection and death . Millions infected , 75k dead ,,,,,, all while the economy was locked down .
