Mona Lisa makes a valid point. There are so many anaologies, but fear of flying is one, in an abstract sense.
I'll offer one more that D and I have used often.
You can't win a lottery if you don't buy a ticket, and if you don't buy one, you have no reason to complain about not winning.
Then, tied in with fear is risk, and many of us don't take the dare, for whatever reason, like we know we can't fly and if we step off a cliff, all the arm flapping we can do is still gonna have the same result.
If it's about relationships, kind of like what I am in, though not so accepted by everybody, I think the only way to know is be with them and let love grow..
I would like to think that all things are possible through God, and faith, and that might be your method?

well.. can't answer for everyone,
but we do things out of necessity.
and don't do things maybe out of fear or out of caring too much about what other people will think.
