I worked for an alarm company in 2017 as an employee installing residential & commercial alarms. They haven’t given me work in about a year.?
I get paid by the install. Is it legal? I’m still in their system as an employee, so they haven’t fired me.

Of course it is legal. What do you expect them to do when there is not enough business to keep you busy? However, a year without work is a long time to be without work. If your savings is running low, it is time to find another job. Actually, you should be doing that long before your savings dwindle too much.
