Before you read this - I’m not trying to complain just explaining.
So here’s my situation:
I’m really unfit - I can hardly run for more than 30 seconds, I do horrible in gym class, I’m not flexible, and I can’t even do a forwards roll. Obviously not a good start if I want to do dance and cheer. Also I’m already 13 and have never really done sports in my life. I don’t eat very healthy - some berries about every week and the odd bit of veg with my dinner but that’s really it.
There’s also the problem that nearly half my grade would judge me, because my school doesn’t have very nice people. Another thing is that I’m a bit overweight - not by a huge amount but my tummy sticks out quite a bit and my thighs are big. I think I have the determination to be able to stick with dance and cheer but the things I’ve mentioned just put me off. Is there I way I can practise from home? Or a way I can get good without people knowing, then once I’m good I can join a school team or something?
(If it’s relevant I’m a girl)
Sorry this was so long, but thank you to anyone who tries to help!

You should be able to practice at home, even in your own bedroom. You can lose weight if you just keep moving. The summertime is great for that. Get out and walk or jug around the block or the park. Eat more salads and steamed vegetables, less hamburgers, pasta, rice and greasy foods, like fries. Stop drinking the soft drinks, even the diet ones. You have a goal now, so work towards it. By fall you just might be fit enough to try out for that dance and cheer you want to be a part of.
There are loads of videos of routines and moves on YouTube that are really helpful for practicing! They will help you start off and improve your posture and flexibility and such as they instruct you how to do each move to get you ahead of the game before you join. I’d say go for it, it’s never too late and honestly the majority of cheerleaders I’ve seen have been thicker girls and they were very good. Do what your heart desires or nothing will ever change.
