I witnessed my teenage neighbor get shot to death about a week ago. He was an innocent bystander in a domestic dispute. My mind is going through all kinds of horrible thoughts. If I had gotten there five minutes earlier then I would have been shot too or maybe if I had gotten there earlier then this maniac wouldn't have shot him to death? Oh my god it was horrible. I keep picturing his frail body lying on the ground and his dad screaming for help. This scene is burned into my memory. I can't sleep or barely function ever since this happened. Does anyone have any advice to get over this? My mom yells at me when I try to talk to her about it and says I need to just move on. It feels more complicated than that. What do you all think? Any advice would be appreciated.

You are suffering from survivor's guilt and it's very common in situations like this. It was a situation you had no control over. You may need professional help or a support group to help you get through it.
you get over it by trying to get the maniac who shot him a long jail sentence
You can't unsee what you saw but time will fade the memory.
