I'm applying to Choate, Cate, and Loomis Chaffee, but I'm worried that my extracurriculars do not stand out on an application. I was hoping to go to Columbia University in NYC, but I'm not sure what I could do to improve my résumé. Here is what I have done so far:
4.81 GPA (unweighted for freshman and sophomore year. I have gotten straight A's except for 2 semesters of bio h, 1 semester of English 1H, and 1 semester of AP Euro; all of those were B's.)
-Extra in "God is D_ad" (2008)
-Recipient of Math Excellence Award, American Scholar Award, Bandmaster Award, President's Education Awards Program (Gold), & Academic Letter (Highest Honors).
-1 year of Math Team
-Member of Theatre Honor Society
-2 years of Tenor Saxophone: 1 year of Jazz Band, 2 years of Concert Band 2
-2 years of Newspaper (cofounded newspaper in middle school, now I'm a writer, but my new school doesn't have a newspaper)
-3 years of volunteering with my town's Police Department
-2 Summers of being a Head Camp Counselor for a kid camp at the PD.
-5 years of Acting (3 years of Reader's Theatre; in freshman year I was Business Manager for 1 show (supposed to be for a 2nd show, but I moved before the show started), Minor Actor/Crew for 1 show; in Sophomore year I was a Major Actor for 1 show)
-6 years of Flute: 1 year of Beginner Band (last chair to 2nd chair),1 year of Concert Band 2 (1st chair), 2 years of Concert Band 1 (4th to 1st chair), 2 years of Marching/Pep Band, 1 year of Symphonic Band (4th chair), & 1 year of Wind Ensemble (3rd chair)
-6 years of chorus (2 years in Elementary School choir, 3 years of Middle School Choir, 1 year of Goldtones (selective, audition only) and Chamber Choir).
-Made it to IMEA (statewide choir) twice.
A lot has happened this year that prevented me from doing any of my usual activities other than band and choir, due to my father being hospitalized and me having to care for him at home most of the time. Also, I moved from my old school, so I couldn't fulfill much
Update:In addition to the aforementioned activities, I have also studied abroad in Germany for 2 weeks for the past 2 summers. I did this while I was staying at my grandparent's house, so it was not through a certified study abroad company.
