I bought a blueberry vodka cake as a Christmas gift for my son daycare staff; I haven’t given it to them yet. Is the liquor inappropriate?
Do you think they can just enjoy a slice after hours when all the kids are gone or maybe everybody can just take a piece to go home with? Are those type of cakes really strong or are they just infused with liquor?

It is sort of borderline inappropriate. There is nothing inherently wrong with it, but the choice of a cake with alcohol in a childcare setting seems a little strange. Generally this type of cake (similar to rum cake) has a substantial amount of alcohol in it. You may also want to check the rules of the day care as if it is associated with a public school there may not be allowed alcohol on the premises (not that it would be a huge deal, but it could be a concern)
Vodka potency will not survive the baking process. It will not get anyone drunk. It is only for flavoring. you may give them the cake and not have any worry
