A friend of mine was a "crisis tactician", he came up with the theory that during a nuclear war, it would be essential for any facility containing survivors, to have a percentage of elderly. Yes, he argued, they would have a higher attrition rate. However the benefits would outweigh the mortality rate. The elderly he argued, were less reliant on labour saving devices and (having been around in the 30's and 40's) were masters of eking out an existence on rationed supplies and lower technology. Also, while the youthful and middle aged survivors would be engaged in the everyday tasks of surviving, "Granny" could be relied on to find endlessly amusing and educational ways of looking after children.
Which got me thinking about the endlessly useful things my father taught me which hopefully he can pass on to my kids (knot tying, map reading, etc.).
There was an incident that happened to me a few months ago, a chap came in to a Pharmacy limping. As we both waited to be served, we had a bit of a chat.
He mentioned his right knee was giving him a bit of trouble, but on the whole he was in good health. And to be honest, I thought the old guy was probably going to outlive me.
He then said "I suppose I ain't in bad shape for 97!", he didn't look a day over 65! He showed me his new drivers licence (he'd just had it renewed because of his age), and yes, he was 97! Apparently, he passed the medical with flying colours too!
Old age is not the end of life, because you do not have to be of old age to die in the first place. And as a believer of god we live on in soul and death of the body, we all will die and old age does not determine that.
For every people there are two world. One is materialistic and the other is spiritual. Both are different and we should not get confused. As per spiritual thoughts,we have to feel every moment of our life satisfied and happy.Time will pass easily. We won't feel the age.
My grandmother operated a local food bank until the day she died. She was 88 and very well, just got up to go to the bathroom and dropped. Hope that's how it happens to me! Harder on the folks left behind, but what a blessing for anyone who dies that way.
That's very true... and if you actually talk to anyone very old, they will tell you that DEEP INSIDE they are still young. That addresses the immortal part of humans.

It only means that you are a little smarter and you enjoy life more. Just because you are old you don't stop living.
