I convert my money to JA dollars. I find that things are cheaper when you pay in JA. If you pay in US dollars or pounds they KNOW you are a tourist. If you pay in JA I seem to get local prices. Convert your money at a Cambio or at the SuperPlus grocery store. The resorts and airports do not give a good rate. When leaving Jamaica, exchange your money back to your pound or US dollar again at the grocery store. The last time we were there the airport would only exchange 100 US dollars so we were left with ALOT of Jamaican dollars. US airport gave a terrible rate to change our money back. Have fun.

£ is the symbol for U.K. Pound Stirling. In other words, British currency. Today, the U.S. dollar equivalent is $48.52, but it changes at least daily.
That's the sign for British pounds. Just go to google and type "31.24 GBP in USD" and they'll do the conversion for you.
Don't forget if you're ordering from a UK Web site that the cost of shipping the item to you in the US will add quite a bit to its price.
