How much duty (customs) to pay on mp4(60gb) player costing £200 from singapore to the UK?
I want to buy it from there because it's cheaper and unavailable here for a while, how much would I have to pay in duty(customs), if anything, when it arrives?
customs duty changes from one classification of goods to another, so unless someone imported the same item recently i doubt many can tell you that, but if you ring the customs classification helpline on 01702 366077, ask them to classify an item so you can find out the taxes. they'll give you its classification code and if you ask, the duty rate. it'll be a percentae of the value of the import (cost of item plus shipping). i do know this type of item is towards the lower end of the tax rates
please take into account vat as well, 17.5% on top of everything, value of import plus shipping and duty. it'll be paid by delivering company, like parcelforce/fed ex/royal mail, whoever, they'll ask you for reimbursement in order to deliver.
P.S, look out for customs handling fees. they're not customs charges, so you can't ring customs about this, its a fee set by delivery people (fed ex/parcelforce and the likes of) and changes from company to company.
