Having spent a LOT of time reasoning on what your question now addresses...
these are my thoughts:
To look for some "sign" is stupid...
only the ignorant would do something so foolish.
(God clearly states," looking for signs not good.")
This is my opinion as to "portending" an "End Time."
There is an obvious convergence of events on the horizon.
The is only so much oil...
so much copper..
so much uranium..
so much food...
so much water...
so many trees...
and when the earth is raped of all that it can give to take care of the "obscene" number of humans residing on it...
Hell will break loose.
How long will it take for there to be no food on the shelves of Walmart (if diesel runs out for the big trucks to deliver the need sustenance for life) ?
My answer?
Two days.
Greed driven panic and hording will remove all needed things in a number of hours.
No signs needed, just common good sense.
That is why I spent 4-5 years of my life making preparations.

Edit:
As for the clocks...
at some point they will stop.
But God's hurt and anger over what we have done is beyond my limiting what He can or will do in the future, including your suggested "clock stoppage".
Every generation thought they lived in the end times.
As for Christianity, Jesus himself said the world would end in the lifetime of the people then. That was roughly 1980 years ago.
It's laughable that Christians to this day still say "Any day now...". How long does it take for you guys to realize it's all nonsense and the world won't end till the sun goes red dwarf?
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.
Jesus prophesied in Matthew 24 that there would be false messiahs before his return and history has provided us with many examples.
Perhaps the most destructive of the false messiahs was Simon bar Kochba, who unleashed such great harm on his people that the injuries are still visible today.
Kochba lived during the second century of this era. With the help of the highly revered Rabbi Akiva, who declared that Kochba was the promised messiah, Kochba organized a rebellion against the Romans who occupied and controlled the land of Israel.
21 For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again.
22 If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
Jesus prophesied that the Gentiles, which is a word that refers to non-Jews, would trample upon Jerusalem until the end times.
It is interesting to note that when Jesus gave this prophecy during the first century of this era, the Jews had considerable control over the city of Jerusalem, even though they were forcibly incorporated into the Roman Empire. The Jews had a Temple in Jerusalem and were able to carry out various Temple functions associated with Judaism.
23 How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! There will be great distress in the land and wrath against this people.
24 They will fall by the sword and will be taken as prisoners to all the nations. Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
There are no signs of the end of the world. Paul wrote, "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night" (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2).
The world and the universe will end when Christ returns. Christ will come as a thief in the night. A thief does not announce when he is coming. Furthermore, Paul wrote that you have no need to know the times or the season of Christ's return.
Jesus thought the end was to happen within the lifetime of the people he was speaking to. Paul thought he was living in the last days, so did John. Almost every Christian has followed this thought thinking it to be the trueth for the last 1985 years. You can too if you want to.
The biggest sign is the evilness of people. They call good bad and bad good. Also it is said that in the last days people will go mad and instead of praying to God will want different illusions and they will call mad everyone that does not go mad with them. We see this happening today. For instance to believe in evolution is an act of madness. Still if you say you do not believe in it you are called mad, ignorant and/or stupid.
as far as we know this now is the end times. we are in it, the times when man has the ability to actually end all of humanity.
the prediction is simple. society will be corrupt at times for awhile, then, we will see what happens when we are not all in agreement that spirituality is what we're meant to have. then we will be out of the end times and into the better world of peace and plenty.

In Matthew 24:14, the Bible says that the Gospel (the news about Jesus and his offer of salvation and eternal life) will be preached throughout the world. The Bible also says that sometime after this happens, the end will come. The Bible has been preached throughout the world for a long time. But now, with the increasing worldwide availability of television and the Internet, there is greater potential for the Gospel to be preached to everyone, everywhere. - Copyright © George Konig, Ray Konig and 100Prophecies.org

The Romans, at great cost to themselves, eventually defeated Kochba's rebellion, and destroyed villages, towns and settlements throughout the land of Israel, and forced a new exile of Jews from the land of Israel, the effects of which are felt today. Even now, the majority of Jewish people live outside of the land of Israel. - Copyright © George Konig, Ray Konig and 100Prophecies.org
Matthew 24:23-25:
23 At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it.
24 For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.
25 See, I have told you ahead of time.
In Matthew 24:21-22, Jesus says that there would come a time of unequaled suffering. Many people have offered their opinions about this prophecy, claiming that it has already happened, or that it is happening, or that it will happen in the future. Some opinions involve claims of widespread disease and famine, or terrorism, or nuclear war, etc. And, so, it can be easy to overlook the good news contained in this prophecy: No matter what happens in this world, no matter how bad things get, God ultimately is in control. And, as we learn from other verses, such as John 3:16, no matter what happens, those who believe in Jesus are given the gift of salvation and eternal life with God. - Copyright © George Konig, Ray Konig and 100Prophecies.org

But, about 40 years after Jesus prophesied about Gentiles trampling upon Jerusalem, the Romans destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple and forced Jews into exile. Even today, nearly 2,000 years later, the Jews still do not have enough control over Jerusalem to rebuild their Temple on the Temple Mount. - Copyright © George Konig, Ray Konig and 100Prophecies.org

I am a Christian.
There are no signs of the end of the world. Paul wrote, "But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you. For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night" (1 Thessalonians 5:1-2).

Christian must always stay ready.
In Christ's name,
