The trick is , firstly to work out a healthy menu.
Secondly a pound of mince (£2) will easily make 3 meals with this and the addition of veg you can turn into loads of very different meals Chilli, cottage pie, lasagne, bolognaise etc.
A chicken(£2.50)will cut into 4 portions plus the carcass can be boiled and when picked will give enough scraps for a risotto. So 5 meals from one chicken.Plus the stock will save you buying too many stock cubes.
Most stores sell value rice, pasta, veg, potato etc.
Porridge is a good filler breakfast
Sandwiches(Tesco loaf 47p) can be your 3rd. meal of the day.A litre of squash in Tesco is 48p
If it was down to me I could eat well for £50 plus some change.
When you go tho the supermarket go with a list. Buy long life milk, always cheaper, buy bread on special, and put what you can't use in the freezer. Go through the vegie isle and pick all the stuff in season, always cheap and at its best quality. Buy meat on Special, put some in the freezer, or make some stew with the vegies. Put extra servings in freezer. Remember to date and name your stews, so you can use them in 3 months. Sometimes at discount stores they have canned fish for good prices, buy a few cans as a store base. Rice and noodles go a long way, very cheap. Also dried beans, lentils etc, have fun
