I stumbled across them the other day and seems interesting, if you're of a certain political persuasion http://fisnua.com/ It seems former Green Party MEP Patricia McKenna and other former Green Party councillors are involved http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2010/0... I'm not a member, would consider it though. Could be difficult for a new political party to garner support from the public but maybe folks don't want the same old crapola. Anyway, I guess if they don't try....
Update:I wouldn't say they are cranks or crackpots or anything, the one photo they do have of some members isn't eh, the best photo. I would be more into the social justice side of it more than the ecological side of things (but then if we don't have a habitable planet what fooking use is social justice, lol) It isn't a primarily ecological "green" party. It's social justice and left wing politics meets ecological concerns I guess.

"Immediately I am wary of any party that has their name in Irish..."
I'm wary of anyone who would say that. (Of the 5 largest political parties in Ireland, 3 of them have Irish-only names and a fourth uses their Irish name in addition to the English one on all their advertising, logos, posters, etc.)
Had never heard of them before now. I'm not a fan of Patricia McKenna in any case - I'd be suspicious of her involvement with the Shell to Sea group and disagree with her stance on Europe. A quick look over their policies make me doubt they'll ever really get off the ground. Their manifesto seems mostly concerned with green issues - the 'enterprise & employment' and 'taxation' portions read like they've been written by a secondary school pupil, and there is no mention of foreign relations in there at all. If they got into power they'd scare off foreign investment, damage our relations with the US & UK, remove us from the EU and generally isolate us from the global economy. I wouldn't be an expert, but I don't think that would be a particularly clever course of action in the current climate.
I do agree with the concept of social justice as the main reason for government existing at all, but can't see how this party proposes to raise the revenues needed to put their plans in place, given the reasons outlined above.
Just my take, I'm still fence-sitting on the whole joining a party thing.
Hadn't heard of them until now. However they look like one of those parties who are most valuable in the opposition as a pressure group rather then a government party.
Never heard of it. If Green Party members are involved then its bound to be a huge success based on the success of the Green Party in the Uk. Did they get a vote ?Sounds like another group of failed politicians getting together.
Just got it up on Google. Immediately I am wary of any party that has their name in Irish, Fís Nua.
Looking at the representatives in the photo and reading their principles, it becomes apparent that they will immediately remove the white and orange from our tricolor and just leave it all Green. For fu@ks sake, we don't need another bunch of cranks and eco warriors attempting to run our country.
No, this is the first I'm hearing of them.
