1. All humans are imperfect.
2. All humans are bound to human frailties, including sin.
3. All humans can be misled.
4. Because all humans are imperfect, frail, sin and can be misled, they could not be trusted.
5. Because humans cannot be trusted, He chose instead to demonstrate the power of God, hoping that they would respect God's power and control their basest behaviors, including sin.
And of course, he needed no man to tell him the truth, he could easily find that for himself.
The miracles were not meant to miraculously make someone righteous to enter His kingdom. They were to shew people wonders so people could think deeply in proper events before crucifixion, with proper things taking place.
A good example is, "And they wished to lay hands upon Him, but they did not since they feared him as a prophet." Some miracles were necessary to make people thinking a certain way by the way God wanted to use.
The miracles not for God "entrusting" himself unto them meant that the miracles, as I said, were not for giving people trust in his conscious and subconscious existence. He knew all men created in his image, so the miracles we not used as a type of "charm" for making people trust his existence as God.
Also, as it says at the end of the quote, He did not perform miracles to gain a reputation, since he can shew wonders in any way, both spiritually and physically. The miracles were only performed to match the actions that He knew would occur.
