im kind of confused with the past tense of être...
How do you say was, or were?
What's the difference between était, étais and été? Can you use both in a french sentance then give equal in engish?
thanks!
Update:thanks but im still kind of confused between them.. so été means been and était & étais are used for was and were?

était is used when using the il pronoun at the past tense.
étais is for je and tu.
été is used as the past participle (i have been...)
j'ai été
tu as été
il a été... etc.
