Well this marked a time when industry in the east began to flourish. There was alot of capital available with people getting wealthy from primary industries... because of expansion the US actually ahd the largest "free trade" zone in the world in its borders. American industrialists had access to a wide range of resources for relatively cheap.. they also had alot of strategic positioning to the European trade (and later with the Pacific trade). New land was taken from the Indians and the Mexicans and new white settlers got land for incredibly cheap (sometimes even free). Land gave people leverage with banks.. industrialist in the east were more than willing to purchase everything they could... people got wealthy. This is the era where the "American Dream" became a popular saying... for good reason. Just imgaine you were from Germany or Russia where the means of production meant very caste-like labour relatioships... then you go to America where you get free land and a boomig market.
The US also became a military power at this time expanding into Mexico and the caribbean. European powers didn't really want to mess with the US too much at this point in history.
