And another thing, please stop flirting with that Rousseauian custom of defining equality as economic equality. Coercive socialism is clearly in odds with the principles of liberty, which comes before equality. Just sayin', it's not what the founders of your beautiful republic wished for you. Equality means equality before the law; equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.

Who are you to tell people of another country than your own that they are right or wrong in their choice of president or dare to question their morality?
It takes a certain degree of arrogance to write what you have posted, superciliously enjoining people to dismiss Rousseau and putting to the fore your own definitions of the French motto.
What makes you think that the way people people have voted makes them feel "self-righteous" except perhaps that it reflects your own attitude when your chosen candidate wins. "Pleased and hopeful" may be but "self -righteous" is totally ridiculous.
I am not a Hollande fan and he is no less a buffoon than his predecessor. The marital shenanigans have already made headlines. When one sees the changes that will be made, only then will people be able to assess whether those who voted for him were taken in or not.
The founders of our republic were far from being angels and what they would think is totally irrelevant. Remember that all power corrupts. Look at your own elections and go to the Politics section next time.
