Though religious warfare and intolerance seems to be a much bigger problem in countries of the Middle East than in more 'progressive' nations (for lack of a better word), I do believe that human greed and selfishness is the root of nearly every problem in our world.
The problems of the world are because this world is given over to Satan. He reigns here, God reigns in Heaven. Unless we follow the path set for us by God, whether the God of Muslims, Christians or Jews, we are following the path set by Satan. That path leads to greed, selfishness and evil.
Some yes, but others are caused by stupidity, bigotry, self-righteousness, and blind ignorance. But then most of these traits are from the religious & political leaders.
