dividing surds...16√15 over 24√75 =?
Hi, this is an example in my book though I am confused about the first part
It says: write the expression and simplify the demoninator.
Example is: 16√15 over 24√75 = 16√15 over 120√3
how did that happen?

Since 16√15 is remaining the same on both side, we shall simplify √75.
√75=√(25*3)=√25*√3
Since √25=5, it will be √75=5√3
Then we shall now take into consideration 24√75
24√75=24*(5√3)
=24*5*√3
=120*√3
As a result, (16√15) / (24√75) = (16√15) / (120√3)

Let's look at this in pieces. First 16/24 -- That equals 2/3.
Next â15 -- That equals â5 x â3.
Then â75 -- That equals 5â3. (The 120 up there is 5 x 24. I reduced the 24 first.)
So now we have 2â5â3/5â3 x 3 -- That equals 2â5/15 and that is the answer.
