Yes, I did. They have 3 types of anesthetic. One is numbing your mouth, one is giving you laughing gas, to calm you and the third way is knocking you out completely. You and your orthodontist will discuss which way before you do the surgery. Most people just do mouth numbing, I had complete knock out because I was so panicked.
I woke up very sore, and with four teeth fewer than I had going in. I could not eat solid food for a week because it hurt so much. Also I threw up that night from all the drugs. They gave me pills to stop the swelling, which are completely optional, but I didn't look like a chipmunk. It took about a week or two for the stitches to dissolve.
After that, your mouth will have dents where the teeth used to be for several months, as the skin fills in where the teeth used to be. But you will feel so much more comfortable! Is it fun? No. But its not as bad as I feared it would be by any stretch. And you will get to eat lots of ice cream.
I've had teeth taken out before when I was a child. The dentist will inject you with anesthetic which numbs the tooth and the surrounding area . You won't feel a thing.
