Perhaps for Atheists the question should be (with due respect) appropriately rephrased : “Would YOU love your enemies?”
Is it silly or sensible? Wishful thinking??
Do you think WWI and WWII could not have happened or at least the result been less devastating had ALL Christians and Atheists sincerely ‘prayed’ for their enemies? Utopia??
Would YOU have done it if you were alive then?
Would you do it now?
Could there be a WORLD WITHOUT HATRED??
Question from:
Matthew 5:44
“However, I say to YOU: Continue to love YOUR enemies and to pray for those persecuting YOU. . .”
Update:End, thanks for your EDIT. Don't you think what you are seeing now is one reason why the world today is in such a mess? Would you believe there is a sure solution? (Matthew 6:10; Daniel 2:44)
Update 3:End-Your assessments appear very sound:
1."world's current state is irreversible"
2. 'one-world' government needed
He who 'can do it' will be your god?? Are you serious?

In order: I do love my enemies, as one can not truly call someone an enemy until he has realized there reasoning and come so close to the person, that, you do love them, realize it or not.
To the untrained brain, it is silly, to one who understands the concept of human nature, it is sensible.
Aye...if prayer had that affect, I would be on my knees praying every moment to ease the agony of this world.
Would I have prayed? no, would I have thought of and wished luck upon? yes.
Hatred is basic human nature, in order to create a world without hatred, one would have to eliminate almost all of the human race, and those left would be far too weak to kill what needs to be killed in order to survive.
EDIT: The answer above mine, why bother to answer this question in the rude manor you did? The asker was in no way saying that it WAS real, before you try to act like a mature adult, at the very least mature your brain.
EDIT: The world today is in such a mess as a result of the stupidity of human beings. We all act as if the other is an entirely different species, and we must gain superiority over them. My theory is that if we managed to take all world leaders, and morph them into one government, obliterate religion, cults, clans, and violence all together except for what is necessary to survive. All humans could live beside one another and call them a member of your family, .a.k.a, every human being on this planet. The world's current state is an irreversible effect caused by many years of stupidity. The man with the prowess to fix it, will surely be my god, regardless if he be some supernatural entity or a man, sure to die soon.
EDIT: I worded that wrong, and I apologize...the gist of what I was saying was that, a god is one who can perform miraculous deeds, I have not physically seen someone do this in my lifetime, the one who does this, will be the closest thing to me as a god that I will accept. I am enjoying this conversatoin, email me sometime.
i would pray for anyone, but I don't think everyone would. I pray every night before i sleep for the people who live in poverty, people who are dying. But, like I said, some people are in there own world, and don't understand that loving the enemy will help. I don't think we will ever live in a world with no hatred. If we did... well, wow! Wouldn't that be nice? Also, i don't think the wars would have happened if we all loved each other.

Good Morning Everyone! Hi Sisters and Brothers. Agape to all.
Answer, yes, I can live in a world with true peace. Yes, I can forgive and pray for my enemies too. Jesus did when he was on earth, and Jehovah is the one that gave us Jesus to follow along with His wonderful words of wisdom in the Bible. I believe that Satan is the ruler of this system of things, and it will not even be any better until Jehovah God's Kingdom is here. And no matter what others think or feel, it is happening, and it will come. He promised, and that is one thing Jehovah God can not do, and that is LIE!
I have meeting this morning, talk again soon.
Agape brothers and sisters.
I have no enemies as far as I know.At least I don't consider anyone my enemies .I'm annoyed by some attitudes displayed but hardly consider that a cause to consider someone my enemies. Now they might consider me as such and if they did and I knew that ,it wouldn't stop me from praying for them.I don't think I know a person I would consider my enemy .
The kind of Love Jesus was talking about when he said to "love your enemies" is the Greek word "agape" Agape love is love based on principle. It isn't like friendship love or sexual love, or even family love. It is love that looks for the greater good of the other person. It can be, but isn't always accompanied by affection.
Love of this kind can be felt for enemies, why? Because it recognizes and acknowledges that people can change and it seeks to help people to become better people.
For instance in the Bible Paul was beaten and thrown into prison. That night there was an earthquake and all the prisoners could have escaped. The jailer thinking that they all had drew his sword and was going to commit suicide. Paul could have been hateful (the jailer was his enemy after all) but instead he called out to him "do not hurt yourself we are all here". The man then listened to Paul and became a Christian.
Praying for an enemy might then include that you ask God that they have a change of heart, that maybe although they are hurtful mean people that they recognize their errors and make the changes needed to reconcile them to God.
Paul himself was a terrible enemy to the early Christians. He did this because he was very sincere in his beliefs that the Christians had turned against his beliefs in Judaism. When Jesus revealed to Paul that it was God's will, and that God's favor was on this new group, Paul stopped being hateful and began to be one of the foremost supporters of early Christianity.
Did someone pray for Paul? I suspect so. The Christian who was sent to speak to Paul was afraid to go. He argued with the Lord and told him "this man persecutes your servants" but he was urged to go anyway. He did and the changes happened.
So yes I can and DO love my enemies. I DO want all to make the changes needed so that they can be acceptable to God. The principles in the Bible can help all of us to live together in peace, but only if we all apply them.
As one of Jehovah's Witnesses, I've known of horrible people who have changed and become clean from bad behaviour, have left off terrible sins and have become reconciled to God. ANYONE can change.
Also as a Witness I would never go to war to kill anyone in any country, whether he is my "enemy" (or my country's enemy) or not. I know what many would say to that, but to be honest? I really don't care who governs me in this world. I think some governments are easier to live under than others, but I have chosen Christ Jesus as my king and so any lesser king or government he allows to rule UNTIL he takes over, I will endure. If another country attacks my country and wins and begins to rule here? Why should it matter to me? Jesus is my king. He is the one I chose to rule. If I can obey him and love my enemies and pray for those persecuting me, then in time I can be a part of his governmental arrangement and I KNOW that will be a peaceful beautiful place and time. He knew how to remain peaceable with people and he taught his followers how to as well. The real secret is love. If you let go of hatred, you let go of offended pride, you let go of all the anger people harbor, and you learn to forgive, to be kind, to be loving, you lead a happier life.
Perhaps people are to busy to pray.
But I have a pray for those that to busy to pray to Jesus,
Lord, I'm ready to conquer my prayerlessness. I want my time with You to be my top priority -- not just in word but in deed. There are activities I have put before You and in so doing, decided that they are more important. I know that I'm responsible for every activity I have put on my too -- busy schedule.
I am not allowing You the time to develop in me the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self -- control.
I know that apart from You I can do nothing. Trying to run my life in my own strength is more than I can bear. I want to commit now to a regular prayer time with You because prayer is as important to my Spirit as oxygen is to my body. Father, help me to start each morning with just 20 minutes of waiting quietly before You-- absorbing Your love, Your wisdom, and Your enabling power for the day. Teach me to pray without ceasing by being conscious of Your presence throughout the day. Thank You in advance for dynamic prayer life that will bring glory to you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
War is solved by "action", not "prayer". If we are not willing to stand up and fight and maybe sometimes die so that our children won't become slaves to governments and religions, Then all is lost and we deserve what we get.
Prayer is a joke and makes no difference except making an individual, personally feel better
I'm an atheist. There's no divinity listening to anyone's prayers. If I have an enemy, I deal with it, I don't turn to the sky wizard.
they wouldn't be my enemies if I loved them.
silly silly utopia!
no
no - how about reaching out to them diplomatically in real life? meet them with reason?
Yes - if humans didn't exist in it, or if human nature were completely different..
Atheists don't pray.
I reserve the right to hate bigotry, injustice, and religious tryanny, as well as the people who promote those ideas.
