They're changing the design of the £50 note, but I'm not sure whether the old ones stop being legal tender.
Anyway, you would be able to swap them at the bank if the legal status of the old notes does change.
I wouldn't advocate keeping £5000 in £50 notes at home though. Only takes a fire, a flood or a burglar and you've lost the lot. Put them into a bank account - even if they don't earn you any interest they are safe.
