"So a company is paying for my gas" This doesn't make sense. Is there a tank next to your house or it's it a valve buried near the street? Haven't you received a bill?
Not illegal, no.
Are you being billed for the gas used, as well as they basic service charge for the connection? Do you have a metered connection? There will be a company seal on the valve, you can contact them from the information on that tag, giving them the meter number that coincides with your street address. They can cross check.
Do you live in an unregulated market? Where the gas delivery company may only "wheel" gas for various providers and not be the supply company? If you live in the US at least, investor owned utilities have an obligation to offer a gas line to anyone within their negotiated franchise area, per the parameters set forth in their rate agreement with the Public Service Commission or similar body.
Form an actual question and ask it. Perhaps the previous occupant ran a business at that address.
I have no idea what the frak you are rambling about.
Such gas companies often have one section that handles wholesale supplies, and a different section that handles supplying individual customers, and that is 100% legal and proper.
