Why should it be either??? The so called moderate muslim is only interested in living a spiritually fulfilled life, they are not in conflict with anybody or religion. I'm not religious, if you care to know.

according to what i was told, there are muslims and there are moslims. muslims follow what was taught by muhammed and moslims follow mohamed. now mohamed was born in the 6th century a.d. and muhammed was born in the 16th century. they lived 1,000 years apart from each other . also muhammed spoke of killing the infidel, and mohammed spoke of peace and understanding. what you heard was probably spoken by muhammed since he was a routy person.
