And if there are, would they best be described as a) naïve, b) brainwashed, c) slow, or d) sociopathic “patriots”?
Update:George: The murder rate in Iraq skyrocketed after America decided to remove the man they put in power. That said, even at the height of violence in Iraq the per capita murder rate has always been lower than Chicago. For a decade Iraq has been in blackouts, most of their professionals have fled the country, half their doctors have been killed, their unemployment shot up to 50%, their per capita income dropped by more than half, and now America has huge permanent bases in their country and tells them how to live. How is that better?

Brainwashed
Well of course espousing another persons opinion over the matter is a sign of influence from the person quoted to the person quoting
There really are 2 kinds of quotes -- One where I go find someone who supports what I think and another where I use the same quote as a means to defining my opinion --
The government has an opinion -- and it has a set value of acceptable opinions -- It defines the opposition as much as the dominant force and sets both up with lies in the story so both can be undermined at any time
Our side -- always tells the truth -- The mistake is thinking OUR includes us as people -- it doesn't it includes us as followers of the issued opinion
Yes.
Pre-Iraq war:
Citizens had to worry if their "Leader" would break down their door, rape their wives/children and drag them off to a dungeon to be tortured into a slow miserable death. All for their ruler's sick pleasure.
Citizens of Afghanistan had to worry if Al-quida would come and burn their village down because someone uttered a non-islamic thought out loud.
Syria-Do you honestly think al-Assad just started killing off civilians recently? This isn't his first "rodeo"
I can go on.
We're helping people step out from under oppressive religious dictators.
Put yourself in that situation...
You're terrified you're going to murdered everyday, you have no money, no future, and very little education (depending on where you live), and nowhere to run to. Everywhere is this corrupt and oppressive. Would you want a more powerful country to help you over-throw your leader?
@Whoever asked this retarded question- Saddam tested biological weapons on the Kurdish people. It is thought that he killed as many as 300000 Kurds, Shia Muslims and other Iraqis. These numbers are estimated via mass graves found in the deserts. The people officially "went missing," and as such are not counted into your murder rate. War takes time, so does recovering from it. It's not something that was going to happen in a week or two. You are naive, brainwashed and slow if you believed that was the case. Europe was still recovering socially from WW2 well into the 60's (80's if you count the Iron Curtain). America didn't kill their doctors. After Saddam was removed the country went into a civil war between two religious groups; Also not America's fault, and It was bound to happen at some point either way. Their country when from a theocratic dictatorship to free democratic state in what is a short amount of time considering the large political and social changes the country is going through.
If the common people of these countries didn't want the US there, they would kick us out. Instead, the common people help us fight against the radical extremists that would like nothing more than to re-subjugate the entire region.
Countries in this region have some of the most corrupt governments in the world; remember that when you hear something they tell you. Also, it is written in the Koran, that one of the best things you can do as a muslim, is overthrow a corrupt government. Doing so will make Allah very happy; and he tells them how to live their lives.
Clearly, you are the one who is naive and brainwashed.
Finally, If you would like to say that every soldier who's died over there wasn't helping those people out from under oppressive regimes; you can eat sh*t and fukking die. I hope a car bomb blows your fukking legs off tomorrow.
There is/was near zero chance the middle east was going to exit the 13th century on its own.
The next 100 years of dictators lining their pockets and oppressing the population was only going to lead to fanatical islamic revolution.
How is Iran better off since the Islamic revolution ?
If you prefer we could simply arm Israel to the teeth and back whatever they think they should do about you.
Yes we are spreading democracy and rebuilding their infrastructure and our companies that get the contracts hire local people and create jobs which lowers unemployment which is pretty bad in all those countries over there. We bring them cable and porn and stuff.
Sadly yes, and the same people also believe that the people in the mid-east are jealous of their 'freedom' and way of life. All of the above descriptions likely play some part.
Seems to me every mid-eastern country we liberate ends up in tribal feuds.
Which is exactly why I was vehemently opposed to entering Iraq.
And Dick Cheney has no regrets.
In some cases our policy is helping in other cases it is hurting. Patriots oppose evil. For that, I make no excuses. We don't always succeed but our record is pretty good and our efforts noble.

Nah. That's just the age-old con always used when guiding people into slavery.
Sure there are. Better us than the Iranians or Syrians. I've seen how they "help" people.
