It is expensive to go to the moon. And there isn't much there to discover. Many people think Mars or Europa or Enceledus would be better places to go because we might find life there.
I'll give you all the reasons. IT's a short list, are you ready?
(1) It is very expensive.
That's it. That's the whole list. We need to find a good reason to spend the money to do this, and the current politics (of the US) do not have any interest in doing this.
I think going back is a great idea - as long as we do it right.... Apollo proved we could *get there*... but, if we go back - it should be to stay for awhile; not just to beat the Russians or the Chinese. And... Mars beckons. I'd rather see us go to Mars first before returning to explore (and exploit) the moon...

We've been there and done that.
Many people want to go but the cost is high.

Because there is so little left to learn, it would not be cost effective. For a little more, we could go to much unexplored planet like Mars.
A lunar test bed for such long missions is in the works with a habitat and all.

After the first manned landing we "went back" five more times (six attempts), with manned landings and the robotic missions continue to this day.
