A charge q = −0.25 μC has a velocity of 1000000 m/s at 45 degrees to the +x axis in the xz plane, with a positive x and z component. There is a magnetic field of magnitude 0.05 T.
a) If B is along the +z axis, what is the force on the charge?
0.00884 N along the +y axis
b) If the force on the charge is 2E-03 N along +y axis, what is the direction of B?
???? degrees from the +z axis in the xz plane
I am only having trouble with b)

See the link ( http://www.magnet.fsu.edu/education/tutorials/java... ) for an illustration of the left hand rule.
Since the charge is negative, you'd point your ring finger in the direction opposite of the motion of the charge.
Assuming a right-handed coordinate system ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb204853%2... ), the direction of the magnetic field is in the xz plane in the -x direction and the +z direction. It should be 45 degrees from the +z axis.
