can someone explain the steps in order to solve this problem?
1. Multiply it out.
-2x-8=1-x/2
2. Group x's together.
-3x/2=9
3. Solve for x
x=-6
-2x-8 = 1-x/2
multiply both sides by 2
-4x-16 = 2-x
swap sides
-2-16 = 4x-x
-18 = 3x
x = -6
You could multiply out by distributive property:
-2x - 8 = 1 - ½ x then add opposites:
+2x - 1.. -1 + 2x
-----------------------
-9 = 3/2 x and now multiply both sides by 2/3
-18/3 = x = -6
-2(x+4)=½(2-x)
- 2(x + 4) = 1/2(2 - x)
- 2x - 8 = 1 - 1/2x
- 1 1/2x = 9
- (2/3)3/2x = (2/3)9
- x = 6
or
x = - 6.
