The desktop GTX 285 is older, but was a higher-end design than the GTX 460 (which replaces the GTX 260). But video card technology has improved over the past 2 years, so the 1gb GTX 460 is actually an equivalent performer.

Anyway you're talking about the laptop/mobile versions... In this case, the newer GTX 460M is slightly better. On the mobile graphics adapter benchmarks the GTX 460M ranks 13th-best overall while the GTX 285M is 15th-best.

Looking at actual game performance.. the 285M gets better frame rates than the 460M in Mafia II, but otherwise trails across the board.

I prefer you to buy the 9800 version because the 260 and 460 are new in the market and may cause some troubles.Some people have reported about it so 9800 will be the best.
