The image of God was never about God's qualities.Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 1 explains God said let US create man in OUR image.
Genesis 2 shows how man is created from the dust (flesh)
God breathed life into him (spirit)
and man became a living soul (soul)
God created man above the animals more than flesh which returns to dust but with an eternal spirit.
We are mere mortals, God is our creator. Perhaps in our spirit form we do reflect him perfectly... but the body is formed from and egg and a sperm, and the spirit enters the baby body and grows familiar with it.
Then again, maybe we reflect exactly what God wants us to see: the suffering (are we a good samaritan); the sick and needy (are we stingy or willing to help)... so many ways we are being tested and we are growing.
They are an image of their creator, not an exact clone of their creator.
Likewise a photograph of you would be your image but lack your knowledge and abilities.
We are however quite a bit more than just a mere facsimile because we have conciousness, memory and the ability to reason and make decisions but we are not God and don't even begin to approach his knowledge and abilities.
Because after all the billions and billions and billions of people God has made, his technique is getting sloppy, like when you have to put together the same thing over and over and over in an assembly line.
people attempt to emulate God's gracious and merciful sentiment by engaging themselves in different community service activites and other caring things. the key word here is attempt. but if you attempt to do anything God will reward you.
because the path to god has taken a detour through the unproven claims of man. my god is not short on pencil and paper. when god writes something down, i will believe it then. until then we have the writings of man.

Because God's qualities were invented several centuries ago, and reflect what those people thought was the human ideal.
Have humans at ANY time perfectly reflected God?

Either that, or he's not real.
Excellent question! We ARE called to reflect HIS image!
Matthew 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
GOD bless
because god is a reflection of our aspired qualities from 2000 years ago.
i'd like to think we are beyond that.
