A lot of that is also due to the order to expand the Army. Of course there will be an initial officer shortage when the order is to expand it by 40,000. The military is a fluid machine; there have been times were there were shortages of higher/lower enlisted. It will take time to fill these positions. OCS is not easy to get into and to become an officer is a long process. It is not an overnight process.
There are plenty with college degrees attempting to get into OCS.
Well, it's not that easy to join the Army as an Officer. There are standards that not alot of folks can or want to have to meet, to include height/weight, physical fitness, College degree requirement and consideration for undergraduate GPA, personal discipline. Also, the Army is a demanding lifestyle...it is not 9 to 5, everyone gets deployed at some point. I can understand how the demands wouldn't appeal to folks on a large scale.
I found it easy to become an Army Officer. It was a done deal in a matter of weeks. The trick here is that the Army expanded and need to fill in the void, it's tricky (but by no means hard) to find qualified people who wabt to become Army officers. Supply and demand.
By the time I got in the Army was meeting its expectations and started to tighten up the requirements. But, for me personally, it was easy. Finding qualified people to fill in the gap who want to join is the problem.
well I'm going into Army ROTC as well as getting my B.S. And in my school there are are cadets in ROTC than there ever has been. I'm sure it's like that all over. So in a few years I expect there won't be much of a shortage.
Either because there to chicken or they think there gonna get shot either way that's no reason to at least research the military about what it does or what they represent because it not all that bad
