Why does CaCO3 dissolves in acid, even though it doesn’t dissolve in water
The CaCO3
doesn't
necessarily
"dissolve" in
acid . . . it
reacts to form
a carbonic
acid, which will
decompose
into CO2 and
H2O.
So, if you had
CaCO3 and
HCl . . . you'd
get the
reaction:
2HCl + CaCO3
-----> CaCl +
CO2 + H2O
while CaCO3 when dissolved in water forms an insoluble Calcium precipate which invariably depict it to be insoluble in water.Take care
