Why do people hate it when someone they’re not attracted to is attracted to them?

I mean, all the other person wants to to love you.

Say, I see a girl that I like, and then I become friends with her, but then she finds out that I was trying to be her boyfriend. Then she gets upset because I’m not honest and thinks of me as only pretending to be her friend.

Why would she get angry or disgusted? It’s not like an intimate relationship is a bad thing. And besides, friend, and boyfriend is hardly mutually exclusive.

I’m not in this situation but I just want your opinion.

Update:

Aries Flare: But I know how to take no for an answer. I can easily get with someone else and just remain friends with the girl. I like having a lot of friends. But I think with girls, sometimes we gotta pursue only one or the other. If you screw up on trying to be her boyfriend, you can’t be her friend.
