Male or Female, the authors all slide down the same slope.
You'd think it would be a small part of the story, but it just pops up every chance it can get as if the author uses the blank pages of the novel to wipe gutter filth from their brains, but their brains manage to slip from their grasp and back into the gutter as the novel pages become saturated with that slimy filth.
As soon as a woman is introduced to the story, previously innocent and decent male characters turn into dogs and do not change back. The next several paragraphs introduce descriptions of the woman or women's breast, curves and the way their clothes hike up or otherwise cling to their body. Rape and surprise sᴇx ,or the repeated consideration of those things through the remainder of the story, are all guaranteed at that point.
Sane, mentally-whole characters who are preoccupied with less regrettable things all end up as transient side-characters. Come on!

Update:@Livelaughlove
But it's a Stephen King novel that drove me over the edge to this rant!
I though he was all well and good until I picked up a book of his that will not be named.
I think they call this stuff 'Fanservice'. It's just empty sᴇxuaI gratification for readers who are eager for fanciful, frivolous f__king. It looks like sᴇx is going to be the main driving force for much of the story I'm reading. Stephen spat on the hopeful outlook he had created in the last sentence of the chapter I read following a certain group of characters who were already clashing. Then he dives deeper into the forest of filth immediately after. *sigh*

I think it's because a lot of authors think that this will help them sell books and make cash. Although many readers are shallow and may enjoy those kinds of things, I believe that these authors underestimate readers and in doing so, ruin the quality of their work. Maybe some of them have these ideas in their heads and just compulsively need to include them even if their story doesn't fit. But of course, you can't generalize either...there are several amazing authors who don't do this! If you want to read quality writing (in my opinion), read John Grisham, Stephen King, and Dan Brown. I don't think you'll have those issues with these authors! =)
Well, my story isn't really a romance, but there is sex in it, because it is about the lives of the people involved. Their lives are made up of romances, sexual relationships, conflicts, epiphanies, etc. I don't think of sex as gutter filth. It is a part of the lives of my characters. It's part of (most) every human's life and since I'm trying to write about life, I figure I have to include the icky sex stuff ;) Maybe some would see it that way, but it isn't necessarily about erotica. It's about the connections between characters, how sex figures into their perceptions about relationships, how they got to where they are considering their personal mores about sex, whatever. I'm not afraid of including it as part of my story.
Alfred Charles Kinsey
Edward barneys
publishers can say you add sex or we don't publish your book not matter how much money you make us. they often do because of these two men.
books music movies video games, in all media there is a push for sex in everything. it comes directly from the work of two men. edward barneys invented the word propaganda he wanted to prevent the dangers of democracy by controlling the masses. this could be done by manipulating their base desires
Kinsey was a total pervert, work is the basis for sex education in schools to this day. he did a famous study on the average american, except he didn't study average people he went to people in prison for sex crimes and prostitutes and others like this and when he published his findings he said that this was the average male and female and that if anyone said otherwise they were just lying and ashamed. he went state to state making sure the law was extremely lenient on sex offenders. he was the father of the sexual revolution. many people in charge of publishing and producing all media books movies music are big fans of kinsey's work and way of thinking.
Hey, speak for yourself.
Sometimes a little "meaningless" sex can make for a memorable weekend.
