It seems like no team has been able to claim the title of “best in England” for more than a season, be it a drop in form or selling players etc. Why is it that no one team in the prem be dominant for an extended period of time like sir Alex Ferguson’s United was anymore?

Interesting Q. Not easy to answer.
The last 2 big teams English teams were MU and Chelsea, 5-10 years ago. Both won a CL. UEFA even had to make a little Uefalona cheat in order to avoid 2 CL finals in a row between these two teams. Then there was a decline, with a lot of players retiring, .. A decline that culminated with the Leicester title (no disrespect to them but they took advantage of the lack of good teams that year). Now there's a rebuilding stage, that has lasted since a few years already. City seems to be the most advanced : they build quite some chemistry and have a core of players. Chelsea isn't that much behind. MU has the players, but still no chemistry. Arsenal will need more time, suffering from some strange identity and leadership crisis under the surface. I don't see Liverpool or Tottenham dominating the league unless something happens financially.
So to answer your Q :
- It takes time to build a dominating team. People seem to think nowadays that one shiny player purchase will change evrything overnight. But no. Look at Real Madrid : it took time and a few managers until that team, with quite the same players, became a machine. You need a core of players to build chemistry over time. Not just players.
- There has been an increase in competition in major sports. Teams are more and more like any firm. Economics give you formulas to apply. And every team know those formulas. Its not semi-scientific like before. It's different in Spain, Germany, ... because some cities are really economically dominant. But in the US, like-minded with the UK because these are the countries of liberalism, teams also have more difficulties to build long titles' series because of increased competition.
- Finally, the lack of stellar English players. Look at Bayern, Real, Barça. Ok they have international stars. But they also have a core of homebrewed players. It's easier to build a team with a core of faithful players. English teams have to basically build teams from scratch, so it's more difficult to have a core, and leaders. Plus they've overpayed quite a lot of players recently and the climate makes it more difficult to recruit some players like Brazilians, Argentinians, ...
with the booming of the internet , the tactics have benn xploited more than ever
u can see a lot of tactic analysis on youtube, image if a manager sees it and learn from it ,
so teams have to change tactic every season ,mou 's chel in 2014 become worse in 2015
conte last year vs this year
arsenal last year vs this year
its very hard to change the game when everyone has the chance
it;s like you teach english worldwide ,so even a kid in vietnam has as many chance to be an american as a kid in ,say , london
Man City not consistent enough for you this season then?, or simply not consitently bad this season for your liking?
anyway thankfully the days of the single clubs ruling everything all the time might well be over everybody want's to prove how good they are the incentives are massive and clubs push themselves to be competitive that's why prob 1/2 the championship at least is realistically comparable to 1/2 the EPL and even below this, what's more this looks like a trend which is emerging in most countries...and i for one welcome it....

Man City are about to re-establish that trend.
They are consistent. Arsenal beat Chelsea. Swansea beat Liverpool. Liverpool beat Man City.
What you are saying has been true for the last 5, 6 or 7 seasons in the EPL. But I think Man City have now destroyed that trend. I support Spurs but I will be honest, this Man City team is the standout team. They will not be a one season wonder either. I predict Man City will continue to dominate English football for a long time unless some of the other teams really start to strengthen drastically. You can't call Man City inconsistent. Sure they lost to Liverpool, but losing 1 game doesn't give them the tag of being inconsistent. They are running away with the EPL title and we know there are 4 or 5 very strong English teams in the EPL, it's just that Man City are better than them. This Man City teams is strong in all areas and they have a very strong bench as well which is key in a long season where injuries and suspensions are picked up.
I would also like to add that I believe that there are more stronger teams in the EPL today, than there were when Man Utd were dominating. That's must my opinion.
